Features and Remarks
„I am drawn to the unpredictable and have realised that what I am looking for is beyond my control.“
Emma Nilsson
In her work, Nilsson explores an incompatible mixture of ceramic materials and wire mesh. She is interested in the unpredictable and what we experience beyond our intellectual minds and senses, surrendering herself to the uncontrolled outcome of the process. Both conceptually and practically, she approaches that which cannot be created, but only experienced.
The sculpture offered here and other works are currently on display in the exhibition ‘CONTROL’ at bei e.artis contemporary zu sehen.
The CONTROL exhibition brings together two Nordic artists, Emma Nilsson (Sweden) and Jeppe Lauge (Denmark), in an impressive exploration of the boundaries between the intentional and the uncontrollable, between the impulse to create and the inevitability of transformation.
In art history, control has often stood for mastery – a conscious act of reproducing, staging or capturing reality. In the hands of Nilsson and Lauge, however, control becomes a multifaceted concept: simultaneously a tool, a boundary and a fragile illusion.
