The exhibition sheds light on the complex relationships between urban spaces and the social structures that shape them. At the centre of the exhibition is the question of cultural and traditional consciousness in urban environments. Kankam examines how the built environment creates not only physical structures, but also places of encounter and exchange of cultural identities. Kankam's works thus reflect the architecture and dynamics of modern living spaces. They thematise the interactions and connections between people within these areas and show how social relationships and communities are influenced by spatial conditions. The artworks invite us to reflect on the individual and collective perception of shared spaces and to question the extent to which these experiences shape people's identities.  

With a particular emphasis on colour and texture, Kankam creates compositions that capture the visual and tactile quality of urban landscapes. His works are characterised by vibrant colours, complex textures and dynamic forms. In doing so, Kankam blurs the boundaries between painting, sculpture and installation to open up new perspectives on familiar scenes. TAPESTRY OF SPACES offers an in-depth exploration of the meaning and impact of urban spaces and their social dimensions. The exhibition encourages us to rethink the relationship between people and the urban environment and to recognise the beauty and complexity of the everyday. In particular, it draws attention to cultural identity and its expression in the urban context.

Ernest Cedi Kankam was born in Kumasi in 1995. He explores the interaction between the conscious and unconscious realms of the human mind. He holds a B.A. and M.F.A. in Fine Arts from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). His works have been exhibited in Ghana and Germany. He participated in Documenta 15 in Kassel with the blaxTARLINES collective and in collaboration with the Gudskul collective. Kankam was nominated for the BBA Art Prize in 2023.
