Claudio Gobbi's long-term projects explore European history, collective memory, and cultural borders. In Persistence, the theater is seen as an unchanging place with the same identity-forming and border-crossing function everywhere. Through the images of these spaces, a different cartography of cultural places emerges, detached from nations, which all countries share and connect at the same time. The old Europe is revealed, which nevertheless proves ready for new borderless developments and expansions. Under changing socio-political situations, further meanings are added to the theaters that simultaneously reflect on past present and future cultural life and its perspectives.

| Claudio Gobbi wurde 1971 in Ancona, Italien geboren. Er studierte Politikwissenschaft in Rom und Fotografie in Mailand. Mit seiner fotografischen Arbeit war er auf internationalen Ausstellungen vertreten, bekam etliche renommierte Preise und war Gastkünstler in der Pariser Cité Internationale des Arts. Er beschäftigt sich künstlerisch vor allem mit kollektiver Erinnerung, dem europäischen Erbe und der Geschichte des Kontinents. Gleichzeitig versucht er, mit seinen Fotos die Grenzen der Fotografie als Medium auszuloten. Mit seiner Monografie über armenische Kirchen (Hatje Cantz Verlag) war der Fotograf 2016 für den Buchpreis des Börsenvereins des Deutschen Buchhandels nominiert. Claudio Gobbi lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. |
