Ilona Kálnoky


Ilona Kálnoky was born in 1968 in Styria, Austria. After her studies at the University of Applied Sciences for Ceramics, she studied at the weissensee Kunsthochschule with Karin Sander and Bernd Wilde. She has exhibited at the Kunstkammer of the Georg Kolbe Museum, the Galerie Heike Curtze Vienna, the Landesgalerie Salzburg, the Galerie Nord, the Galerie Nosbaum Reding, the Haus am Lützowplatz and the Galerie weisser Elefant in Berlin, among others. She is co-founder of the UM Festival for Art, Literature and Music. Ilona Kálnoky teaches at the HNE Eberswalde and lives in Berlin.


CV

In her mixed sculptures, the sculptor Ilona Kálnoky thematises and translates twists, links and new connections; she sometimes leaves behind only the photographic image of the works after completion. In doing so, she often uses raw materials from the hardware store and thus sets processes in motion that cannot always be controlled and often remain in an unfinished state. In her choice of materials and the linked artistic examination and deformation, her view of things changes and with it her awareness of social conditions, but without renouncing the potential for further development.
