Here it is the woman's gaze into the newspaper horoscope - i.e. the future - which Baumgartner accentuates by embroidering it with long black threads. The star circle is concentrated in the focal point of the eye.
Her working method is similar to that of collage. From existing visual realities, she removes essential visual information and modifies the found objects so that the original context recedes into the background. Through painting, sewing, partial removal, or by incorporating further elements, she adds a second reality that, together with the source material, forms a new reality.
Not infrequently, she explores the boundaries between fact and fiction and re-stages, with subtle objets trouvés, the ambiguity of depicted reality...

| Alexandra Baumgartner wurde 1973 in Salzburg geboren. Sie studierte an der Universität Mozarteum Salzburg und an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien, erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen und Stipendien und nimmt an internationalen Ausstellungen teil. Ihre Arbeiten befinden sich u. a. in den Sammlungen DZ Bank Kunstsammlung, Frankfurt am Main, Kunstsammlung des Landes Salzburg und im Salzburg Museum. Alexandra Baumgartner lebt und arbeitet in Wien. |
